How to measure your foot
- Measure late in the day, when feet are at their largest, wearing the socks you'll wear with the shoes.
- Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall. Mark the tip of your longest toe (not always the big toe).
- Measure from the wall to the mark in centimeters or inches. Do both feet and use the longer one.
- Enter the length in the converter above, choosing "Foot length".
If you're between sizes, go up half a size for running and hiking shoes, where your foot swells and slides forward.
How the size systems work
UK and US sizes count in barleycorns of 1/3 inch. A UK adult size is 3 × last length in inches − 25, so each full size adds 1/3 inch (8.5 mm). US men's sizes are one size above UK; US women's are 1½ above US men's.
EU sizes use the Paris point of 2/3 cm: the size is the last length in centimeters × 1.5. Each EU size adds 6.7 mm, a little less than a UK size, which is why EU sizes don't map one-to-one onto US sizes.
Mondopoint (ISO 9407) is simply foot length in millimeters, used for ski boots and military footwear. A foot 265 mm long is Mondopoint 265.
The chart covers adult sizes. Children's sizes use separate scales in the US and UK (toddler sizes up to 13, then youth sizes starting again at 1), which a later page will cover.

EU 40 is about a US men's 7.5 or a US women's 9 (UK 6.5).
How do I convert men's to women's shoe sizes?
Add 1.5 to a US men's size to get the US women's size: a men's 8 is a women's 9.5. To go the other way, subtract 1.5. Some brands use 1 or 2 instead of 1.5.
Is a UK size the same as a US size?
No. A UK size is about one size smaller than a US men's size (UK 8 = US men's 9) and about 2.5 smaller than a US women's size (UK 5 = US women's 7.5).
What foot length is a size 10?
A US men's 10 fits a foot about 10.67 in (27.1 cm) long. A US women's 10 fits about 10.17 in (25.8 cm).
Why do sizes differ between brands?
There is no single international standard in everyday use. Each system was defined separately, brands round differently, and the shoe's shape (the last) affects fit. Treat any conversion as accurate to about half a size.
